A number of Royal Ballet artists have been honoured at the National Dance Awards 2015. The awards, which are decided by 50 dance critics from across the UK and are now in their 15th year, celebrate excellence in professional dance.
Royal Ballet Principal Natalia Osipova, who is currently performing the role of Tatiana in Onegin, won in both major dancer categories: Outstanding Female Performance, for her acclaimed performance in Giselle; and Best Female Dancer. Her performance as Giselle, partnered by Carlos Acosta, is now available to buy from the ROH online Shop.
Principal Guest Artist Carlos Acosta, who joined The Royal Ballet in 1998 and created his first work – Don Quixote – for the Company in 2013, was presented with the De Valois Award for Lifetime Achievement. Carlos will next be performing at Covent Garden as Prince Siegfried in Swan Lake.
Soloist Francesca Hayward, who earlier this Season performed the title roles in both Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Manon, won the Emerging Artist Award – a new category added this year to recognize younger dancers. Watch an interview with Francesca about performing the role of Manon.
Royal Ballet Artistic Associate Christopher Wheeldon won the award for Best Classical Choreography for his production of The Winter’s Tale.
Other winners include Xander Parish, who won Outstanding Male Performance for his performance in the title role of Apollo for the Mariinsky Ballet; and Jonathan Goddard, who won Best Male Dancer and Outstanding Male Performance, Modern.
